The teen-themed entertainment portal is all abuzz about what Miley Cyrus was wearing on a recent photo shoot - or, to be more specific, not wearing. Publications beyond the teen realm have latched on to this latest controversy (The New York Post labeled the picture and accompanying article, “Miley’s Shame”). So what’s the big fuss about? This:

OK, so she is only 15, and she is technically topless and wearing only some fabric in the picture, but somehow it doesn’t strike us as sexy or super-provocative. Cyrus has apologized to her fans for the shoot saying that while on set, she thought the images would be artistic, but upon seeing them and reading the article, she’s just “embarrassed.”

Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director says he’s shocked by the press surrounding the shoot, saying other teen stars show up on much more scandalous ways and nobody raises and eyebrow. Could it be that Miley was the one vestige of apparent morality left in Hollywood’s teen scene?  Sure, she’s been skewing more and more “grown up” with some of her recent styles, but she does always manage to stay relatively covered up, and to exude that innocent  girl-next-door charm.

Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director had his own take:  “This is a girl caught up in a gigantic enterprise where many people’s fortunes are riding on her future. If it was fine then, I don’t see why suddenly it’s not fine … Maybe Vanity Fair is a far too sophisticated media outlet for her. Maybe she’s better off in those teen magazines. We don’t do cheesy teen pictures. We do chic pictures and pictures that are beautiful portraits by probably the leading portrait photographer of our age.”
Ah, coming of age in young Hollywood.
