The annual American Music Awards took place tonight at the Nokia Theater, amid a star studded show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The show, which featured Alicia Keyes, Queen Latifah, Sarah McLachlan and a 7-minute medley of Christina Aguilera’s greatest hits.

Having just turned sweet sixteen, Miley Cyrus was back stage when she was surprised by her father, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jordin Sparks who had organized a mini-party for her 16th birthday.

For her birthday celebrations Miley choose a creation by Marchesa Spring 2009 collection which actually made her look far beyond her sixteen years, but then she always has been 16 going on 40.
