For any babies of the 80’s – or anyone who remembers Jordache as the “IT” jean of decades past - you’ll be able to appreciate the somewhat stagnated brand’s attempt to re-invent themselves. And who better as their poster child than supermodel-turned mom-turned-TV host, Heidi Klum? Jordache is getting their dibs on the skinny jean – albeit maybe a bit late – and using the fashionista mom to kick-start their campaign post-Jennifer Love Hewitt.
While the ads are brining Jordache up on the trends, their also harkening back to the 1979 campaign which was banned by major television networks for featuring a topless women riding a horse on the beach. This campaign shows a topless Klum from behind – holding a horse whip while standing on a balcony. The ad was shot at L.A’s Chateau Marmot.

Some people aren’t sure Klum makes sense in a jeans-shot-from-behind ad. For while she’s known for her supermodel body, supermodels aren’t know for their great asses. Not to say the ad still isn’t sexy. But Jordache is updating in more ways than one, and they’re adding the spandex so essential to this look – essential for the real-world women who don’t have supermodel butts. It seems like a no-brainer but it’s actually a far cry from Jordache’s hey-day. When they rode the designer denim wave and were known for jeans so tight and unforgiving, girls would have to lay down just to get them to zip up.
In spite of the blatant sex appeal, the fact that skinny jeans don’t look good on THAT many people, and the “designer” mindset, the president of Jordache enterprises says Heidi is exactly what they’re looking for to convey the image of every-woman. “With her success as a supermodel, businesswoman and mother, Heidi embodies the sexy confidence that the Jordache brand is about.”
The denim market is already saturated with people trying to do just about everything “new,” and “different” (which really ends up being the “same” as everybody else), The company is hoping Heidi will give them the boost they need. But with retro high-waisted jeans making a comeback, we may see Heidi in another campaign before too long. One thing’s for sure, you won’t see her sporting mom jeans any time soon – or ever.
