Fashion and Pie

Posted under fashion

Rei Kawakubo is mixing high and low - and throwing in a dash of sweetness. She’s designed a red, pie-shaped shop concept that will house her Comme des Garçons for H&M collection in its entirety in 20 select locations, with smaller versions in a great number of doors come early November.

Additionally, Comme des Garçons designer approached Louis Vuitton and will design six handbags that will be sold exclusively in a temporary Louis Vuitton shop at the Comme des Garçons store in Tokyo.

The collection is set to include two original “party bags” she designed, plus reeditions of two 30-year-old read more ....

Shifting Fashion Focus

Posted under fashion

It seems that - even when it comes to fashion weeks - the highlights are on the women’s clothing. Sure, a few men walk the runway, and there are some astute observers who pick up on the next hot men’s trends, but it seems like men’s fashion rarely gets its day in the sun. Well, men’s fashion week in Milan is underway and it’s obviously focused on the fashion-conscious men of the world.

Here are a few fave looks, by designers like DSquared, that will no doubt be coming to a high-end department store near you.

This DSquared look mixes read more ....

Anne Hathaway Gets Smart

Posted under fashion & Anne Hathaway

And we’re not just talking about her role in the “Get Smart” movie. As recently single Anne made her way around the red carpet, she morphed in and out of several different looks.

I think we’re most used to seeing her as “sweet ans sophisticated” so for me at least, the third look takes some getting used to. At a glance I hardly recognized her in the suit with her new hair do. The shoulder pads in the the first look are a little big for my taste and there’s something about the hem-line that seems off when taken in read more ....

Burberry’s New Couple

Posted under fashion

Burberry is getting back to its British roots - and playing up their menswear division, too. The brand’s creative director decided to cast British natives Sam Riley and Rosie Huntingdon Whitely to be the face of the new fall campaign.

You may recognize Sam from the 2007 film “Control,” or - if you’re a real “Law and Order” fan he may look familiar to you thanks to a few recurring roles.

Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley falls on the modeling end of the spectrum, and may be a familiar face thanks to the Victoria’s Secret Pink campaign.
The duo is pictured in a read more ....

An Olympic Design

Posted under fashion

When Team USA competes at the Olympics in Beijing, they won’t be doing so in any ol’ apparel. No, they’ll be racing, swimming, running, throwing (etc., etc.) in style. Well, in a special kind of Olympic style.

You couldn’t really call Speedo’s red, white and blue performance swimsuit designed by Comme des Garçons high fashion, but as a design that favors function over form, you can see how it would be appreciated by its wearers.
“I was interested in expressing the energy and the power that comes from the spirit, embodied in the meaning of the calligraphy, together with the read more ....

Anne Hathaway Makes the Cut!

Posted under fashion & Anne Hathaway

Following the breakup with her boyfriend of two years, Raffaello Follieri, Anne Hathaway is doing all the things prescribed for dealing with a split.

She debuted a stunning, sophisticated new hairstyle, worked hard (albeit, the type of work we’re speaking of is of the red carpet variety, but you can’t blame a girl for being famous!), and traveled to Mexico for some “me” time.

Of course, any breakup after a two-year relationship is enough to send a girl into a downward spiral, but given her status - superstar - and the details around the breakup - BF got himself thrown in read more ....

Hoping for U.S. Success With Meryl Streeps Daughter!

Posted under fashion & Eva Longoria & Jessica Alba & Meryl Streep

Parisian fashion brand Gerard Darel is seeking to make its public face more appealing to their US fan base - people like Eva Longoria and Jessica Alba.

If you haven’t heard of the label, you’re not alone, and you’re perhaps the reason the company chose Meryl Streep’s daughter, Mamie Gummer, to be the face of the new campaign. They’re opting to replace Charlotte Gainsbourg - who has represented the label since 2003 - with Gummer.

It seems a smart move to opt for a US-based starlet if the brand hopes to increase its awareness and fan base here, and although Mamie read more ....

Tommy Hilfiger was looking for a slice of Americana that ended with an Israeli-born model on the small screen. But here’s what happened in between:

Should Hillary Clinton Have Done Vogue?

Posted under fashion & Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton showed up on the cover of Vogue during her time as first lady, and the magazine is wondering if she could’ve done better if only she’d agreed to be featured again.

The magazines contributing political writer, Julia Reed, had been planning a spread about Clinton and her bid for the White House for months, sitting down to meal after meal with the candidate’s publicist to hash out the details. Then - according to Anna Wintour’s Editor’s Letter in the fashion magazine - access was cut off, she says, either because it was deemed too feminine or too elitist.
