Fashion’s Famous Gear up for “Ugly Betty”

Posted under fashion & events & fashion roundup

It’s a fashionable day in LA. (I know, isn’t it always?) But today, there’s even more than usual on our fashion radar. Editors of Elle magazine, Robbie Myers and Joe Zee, are on the set of “Ugly Betty” today filming their part in the season finale of the show.

The pair will appear in an episode which depicts a charity softball game between Elle and Mode magazine. In addition to their editors, Elle is calling in the big guns! Naomi Campbell will also be guest starring, although there’s no word on what position any of these guest read more ....

Guess Goes Green

Posted under fashion & Rosario Dawson

We love that fashionable fashion labels are starting to go green. For so long, it seems, eco-friendly wear has been relegated to hippy-ish looking skirts and burlap-sack-like tops. *shudder.*

Thank goodness for Guess. They recently launched an organic cotton collection at their Rodeo Drive location, bringing out stars like those who hosted the event - Amy Smart and Emmanuelle Chriqui (who played Sloan on Entourage) - and their A-list friends.

Guess supplied the hosts’ party outfits - including slinky tops, dark organic cotton jeans and strappy sandals. Rosario Dawson, Elsa Pataky and Michele Laroque were among a few of the read more ....

Miley Cyrus Puts Miles Between Her Naked Self and Vanity Fair

Posted under fashion & Miley Cyrus

The teen-themed entertainment portal is all abuzz about what Miley Cyrus was wearing on a recent photo shoot - or, to be more specific, not wearing. Publications beyond the teen realm have latched on to this latest controversy (The New York Post labeled the picture and accompanying article, “Miley’s Shame”). So what’s the big fuss about? This:

OK, so she is only 15, and she is technically topless and wearing only some fabric in the picture, but somehow it doesn’t strike us as sexy or super-provocative. Cyrus has apologized to her fans for the shoot saying that while on set, read more ....

Temperley Does Tepees

Posted under fashion & Halle Berry & Eva Mendes & Sarah Michelle Gellar

Alice Temperly is adding another design style to her list: Tepees. The designer has tackled lines for Target and her couture line has drawn fans that include It Girl celebs like Eva Mendes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Halle Berry.

But back to her Native American inspiration: she’s created a number of jewel encrusted “bohemian hideaways” as a spin off of the ones she created for her own personal parties in England. The unconventional dwelling places can be found at the One&Only Le Saint Geran on Mauritius - a French resort island off the coast of Africa. Temperley’s tepees are read more ....

Faux Pas in the Age of Google

Posted under fashion & Scarlett Johansson & Christina Ricci & Chloe Sevigny

In an interview with Christina Ricci for BlackBook that is on stands this week, reporter George Gurley made a mistake no journalist should be allowed to make in the age of Google, Yahoo, 24 hour news and ’round-the-calendar ad campaigns and runway shows. When talking with the actress, he asked her what is was like being the face of Louis Vuitton. It seems that Ricci took the question in stride, answering, “Well, I’m not anymore. I was one of four actresses that they used in a campaign once and it was really fun. I liked it. I would like to read more ....

Gucci Gets Claire Danes

Posted under fashion & Claire Danes

Claire’s got a new gig:  the face of Gucci’s new jewelry ad campaign set to debut around the world this fall. The campaign will be shot by photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Gucci creative director Frida Giannini expounded on the reason behind the label’s decision “Claire Danes is a modern icon and one of the most interesting young actresses on the international scene. Claire’s sensual, confident beauty and her passionate, independent and strong character embodies today’s Gucci woman.”

While I’m not sure I would consider Claire Danes to be a modern “icon” - maybe that’s because I’ve recently read more ....

French Fashion on the Big Screen

Posted under fashion & Catherine Deneuve

French film maker Laetitia Colombani is on her way to making some fashion waves with her next film. WWD is predicting the film - Mes Stars et Moi (My stars and myself) “could do for contemporary fashion what Marie Antionette did for macaroons.” That doesn’t really mean a whole lot to me, since I wasn’t aware that there’s been a boom in macaroon consumption since Marie Antionette, but if this new film is pressing fashion boundaries I’m all for it!

The film stars Emmanuelle Béart, Catherine Deneuve and Mélanie Bernier playing actresses who are shuttled from fashion shoots to premieres read more ....

LV and a Couple of Coppolas

Posted under fashion & Keith Richards & Louis Vuitton & Sophia Coppola & Francis Ford Coppola

They’re already big names in the directing world - and in mainstream pop culture. Now, the rumor is that Louis Vuitton is planning on keeping it in the family with father/daughter directors Francis Ford Coppola and Sophia Coppola. The words is that the pair will be part of the LV’s “Core Values” campaign.
According to sources, the Coppolas recently posed together for photographer Annie Leibovitz in Argentina - the location where the elder Coppola is filming his latest movie, “Tetro.”

Francis and Sophia won’t be the first somewhat unusual choices for this particular LV campaign, which is said to underscore read more ....

Evan Rachel Woods Sees “Life Before Her Eyes”

Posted under fashion & Dita Von Teese & Uma Thurman & Evan Rachel Woods

We agree - it’s a little odd for a fashion label - Nicole Miller - to sponsor a screening about a school shooting. The movie, “The Life Before Her Eyes” was shown in New York and drew out the stars of the flick - Evan Rachel Wood and Uma Thurman - along with other celebs.

Wood definitely caused a stir when party-goers couldn’t help but (continue to) notice a striking resemblance between the star - who’s currently dating Marilyn Manson - and Manson’s ex, Dita Von Teese. Incidentally, Woods says she’s been trying to emulate her co-star, Thurman since she read more ....

Hollywood’s Best-Loved Love Their Kids

Posted under fashion & cindy crawford

One of the proven facts in Hollywood - among all the gossip, backstabbing and namecalling - is that celebs support celebs, if only on the surface. So it’s no surprise then that a clothing store started by Hollywood royalty would bring an influx of the same.

Jenny Belushi (Jim Belushi’s wife) and her partner Heather Whitney threw a party this week to celebrate the opening of their new kids clothing shop, Poppy, and drew in some big name buyers.

Reese Witherspoon traded tot fashion tips with Cindy Crawford, making their kids sound like little fashionistas-in-training.

“Kaia likes things with a read more ....
