DVF: From Spring to Fall

Posted under fashion & Susan Sarandon

 susan sarendon.jpg

Here’s something you don’t hear very often: A designer commenting on an item that can be worn between - and throughout the course of several - seasons. In a world where it seems like there’s a seasonal fashion week going on almost constantly, it’s good to know there are items that transcend this trend.

Diane Von Furstenberg praised the color block dress Susan Sarandon’s wore to Diane’s show saying although the look is smashing now, it will carry into fall. She did mention that different colors will be hotter this fall - like bronzes, teals and blacks.

All “Eyes” on Jessica Alba

Posted under fashion & Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba Blue Gown

It’s still a little hard for me to believe that Jessica Alba is pregnant - and she’s doing a good job of camoflauging her growing stomach which doesn’t help my mind get around the idea!

In keeping with the trend of Hollywood red carpet pregnancy hotness, she looked smashing in a long, flowy dress at the premier of her movie, The Eye. Not that Alba needs any accessories besides her big bauble of an engagement ring, but she did a good job of playing the dress trendy yet sophisticated with subtle accessories including a satin clutch, drop earrings, and a read more ....

All Wrapped up in Herve Leger

Posted under fashion & Sophia Bush

Azria’s Herve Leger collection presented at NYC Fashion Week features 51 ways to tie a bandage. The “bandage” look is Azria’s trade mark and has intrigued stars like Joss Stone, Mandy Moore, Sophia Bush and Padma Lakshmi - who sat front and center at his show this week.
They all paid homage to the designer by coming in one of his signature pieces - each in a skin-tight dress, yet each with a different twist.
This was the first time a new line was presented at the Bryant Park tents to editors, stylists and retailers. Azria wasn’t afraid read more ....

BAFTA Fashion

Posted under fashion & Thandie Newton & Emily Blunt

The BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) also took place this past weekend, and gave stars another reason to sachet down the red carpet in whatever look happened to catch their fancy.

Here are some of our favorite:

British actress Emily Blunt went asymetrical an unique with this aqua, one-shouldered gown. It’s very classic but we love that she’s trying a color we don’t too often see on the red carpet.

Rock and Republic Goes Gangster

Posted under fashion

While some designers went rock and roll for Fall ‘08, to spite their name, Rock & Republic took the rock a bit further with gangster chic at fashion week in NYC.

The “rock” popped up in other areas too - of course they utilized a rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack to go along with their latest fashion line which featured fedoras, trenchcoats, watchman jackets, even looks bordering on mafia-esque.
Although critics were saying the looks were solid over-all, some audience members mused after the show _ what happened to the denim that made this label famous?

Rocker Joss Stone, was making read more ....

Fergie’s Gown is Grammy Gold

Posted under fashion & Fergie

fergiaat the grammys.jpg

I can’t believe I’m going to write this - but I think Fergie was the best dressed star on the Grammy’s red carpet. Which forces us to ask - did the girl get a new designer??!!

I’ve been pretty down on Ferg for a lot of her “fashion” choices - baring her stomach at high-class events, suspenders, fedoras … none of these scream fashionably classy and tasteful - in fact, quite the opposite.

After last weekend’s event, though, I guess I’ll have to revise my opinion. Fergalicious showed up to the gala in a dazzling golden, asymetrically cut, strapless gown read more ....

New York Fashion Week Goes Retro 1930’s

Posted under fashion & accessories & Heidi Klum

 greta garbo look.jpg

As Heidi Klum kicked off the New York fashion week in Bryant Park, Manhattan there seemed to be an underlying question to the style and designs. Is it the ‘R’ word that is having the biggest effect on fashion this season? By the ‘R’ word we mean ‘recession’.

There is a distinct 1930’s retro look to the runway this year, reminiscent of a time which saw the American economy take an unexpected nosedive and the rest of the world plunged into the depths of financial despair known as the great depression.

SAG Awards, Please Don’t Let Us Down!

Posted under fashion & Angelina Jolie & maternity & Debra Messing & Sandra Oh & Michelle Pfeiffer

There were winners and losers … but the far more interesting observations came on the red carpet. Any Hollywood awards show provides more than enough fodder for celeb-loving fashionistas and the SAG awards were no exception.

AOL chose Debra Messing as one of their “best dressed.” I agree as far as the dress goes -but what’s going on with her hair?! And that pissy pout? Maybe she’s angry because her hair stylist apparently had the day off.

NYC Fashion Week Rocks!

Posted under fashion & Mandy Moore & Joss Stone

mandy_moore_posing.jpg

It’s time for another round of fashion weeks!  NYC Fall Fashion Week is in full swing and some trends for the upcoming seasons are emerging. One of our favorites? A Rock-n-Roll theme, especially predominate in the Maz Azria show. Clothes are form-fitting and dark colors are being widely used. The Max Azria show brought back the bandage look of Herve Leger, while celeb fans Joss Stone and Mandy Moore (already outfitted in this look) sat front and center.

Old Navy’s Fashionable?

Posted under fashion & Hayden Panettiere & bargain hunting & Blake Lively & Kristen Bell & Sophia Bush

old_navy.jpg

Yes, folks…tis true.  I’ve been perplexed by that for quite some time now.

I remember when Old Navy was cool to wear back in high school (mind you, I’m just about to turn a quarter century old very soon…), then it went through an awkward stage where it was like the hamburger compared to the prime rib of clothing shops, and now it’s just va-va-va-voom!

I’ll also let ya’ll in on a little secret…I actually went shopping there and stole a look off a mannequin with one of my bff’s and must’ve said out loud like a trillion times, “Since read more ....
