Alas, though we may flip longlingly through Vogue, In Style, W, and all the mags that depict star style, actually dressing like a celeb is a pretty pricey proposition. We are after all talking about people with endless resources to squander on their “favorite,” “reasonable” t-shirt (often to the tune of $70 and up).Â
But let’s talk the looks celebs are designing themselves. It would seem that a big market for these duds would be their fans, who theoretically want to look like their favorite superstar (while the big bucks in Hollywood already are their own superstars). But this begs the question: can the fans of celebs-turned-designers come close to affording the price tags on these hot items?
We’ve already talked a bit about super-affordable lines designed for discount retailer Steve and Barry’s. Fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker designs for them, as well as Amanda Bynes. Items in these lines are cute, stylish, and going for as little as $7. Nice.
But what about some of these other celeb-designer lines, which retail at high- end department stores and boutiques? Will the price of a tank top set us back more than the cost of a ticket to their sold out shows?
Gwen Stefani and L.A.M.B.

Gwen was one of the first to jump on the designer bandwagon - and with her … um… fashion “flair,” it makes sense. She’s known for some cutting edge (which can be a nice way of saying “really out there”) combinations. L.A.M.B. (or, Love, Angel, Music, Baby) is sold at stores like Nordstrom and Saks. A cute wool dress goes for $365. It’s a classic cut, but still a bit much.  A basic yet artsy tank is $55 - not too over-the-top when compared to other hot labels, but isn’t exactly reasonable, either. Pair it with a microscopic pair of shorts for $80 and you’ve got yourself a pricey little outfit.
Victoria Beckham for Rock and Republic

Posh’s Rock and Republic line dVb retails at Neimun Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, and that kind of says it all. While it’s true that a good, classic pair of jeans will last you a long time and can even be considered an investment, jeans are also a rough and tumble, wash and wear kind of clothing item. $230 worth of denim on youe legs - excessive?
Kate Moss for Top Shop

For a fashion icon who’s produced so many fashion hits and trends, it’s only natural she’d be asked to create her own line. And while some celeb lines are a bit over the top and out of place in the real world, Kate’s really is quite wearable - and the pieces are a little more buyable when compared to the lines of some of her peers. We found a couple tunic dresses ranging from $40-$60. But more elaborate items - like dresses, pants and blazers range from the mid $100’s to the mid $200’s.Â
Affordable? Barely.
