It may have been an awards ceremony that became a tribute to the recently deceased Michael Jackson, but that didn’t stop singer Beyonce making her own bid to steal the show once again, as she had had the inauguration of Barack Obama back in January with her rendition of Etta James‘, ‘At Last’.

But there wasn’t just the one attempt last night, on no! As Beyonce arrived at the event, strutting her stuff up the red carpet, she wore what can only be described as a dress that looked a kin to the drapes from a gypsy caravan and a pair of shoes that wouldn’t have looked out of place dangling from the ears of Elizabeth Taylor as she played the role of Cleopatra back in 1963. The purple heeled monstrosities, with rows and rows of cascading colored beads, did in fact match her extremely short multi coloured Balmain mini dress.

But not content to stun the paps and the audience as she teetered along at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Beyonce went on to steal the show as she later performed her version of Ave Maria while clad in an outlandish wedding dress.

Apparently the wife of  Jay Z in felt it appropriate to don a wedding dress for her tribute to Michael and later she also dedicated her award for best female R&B artist skyward to the late star saying, ‘This is for you, Michael Jackson. I have to thank Michael for being my future and my hero.’

Although initially the BET awards were set to take place Sunday night anyway, the show organizers have spent the past three days since Jackson died, working overtime to make sure the show became a memorial to the Thriller star.
