Sure, Sofia Coppola is definitely a celebrity, but she’s a bit of a different flavor when it comes to design collaborations, for which we’re grateful.

Previously, when Marc Jacobs hinted that he might be putting off the design collaborations with Louis Vuitton, it sounded like there would be no more celeb-inspired goods out there. But it looks like he won’t be following through with that idea just yet.

It must’ve been the night of scents smelled ’round the world, as another designer launched his new fragrance line Tuesday - complete with a flamenco band and a stuffed ox. John Galliano transformed his headquarters to celebrate launch of his first signature scent - he scattered love letters, erected statues, put out bowls of fruit and flaunted his floaty dresses to evoke the sense that “[a woman] just left the room but we’ve captured her essence.”

Galliano’s bash drew out avant-gard stars like Sofia Coppola, milliner Stephen Jones (did you know people were still called “milliners?”) and Sidney Toledano.

Maybe the timing is coincidental. Maybe it’s perfect timing. But hot on the heels of Sharon Stone’s Dior ads getting dropped in China, a new Dior model is coming up through the ranks. The brand announced that it signed Sofia Coppola to be the new face of it’s Dior Cerie fragrance.
The company is said to have signed Sofia Coppola to direct a TV advertising campaign, which will begin airing in September. The campaign reportedly will also feature Byelorussian model Maryna in addition to Coppola.

Marc Jacobs in OUT magazine

In keeping with the recent trend we’ve seen of design houses turning to the big screen to tell their story, look for Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton on the Sundance Channel next month.

Prior to that, Marc Jacobs will host a screening of this documentary on January 31st (before the end of his fall runway show) at Manhattan’s Tribeca Grand hotel.
